PATNITOP
Relatively unknown, compared to the other tourist spots in the state Patnitop is no less beautiful or serene. If one is aiming to get away from it all for some time, this place is hard to beat.
With all its beauty at a hill station, it is a charming plateau at 2, 024m. The meadow is surrounded by dense woods and lush greenery of Pines. Tracks lead to pockets where time stands still and calm prevails.
Visiting Time
Although Patnitop is an 'anytime' place, the best time for a visit are summer, during May-June, and autumn, September-October. If seeking snowboard joys, December to March is the time to be here.
Trekking
Picturesquely situated at a high altitude, there are many pleasant walks around this popular hill station. Patnitop is a good starting place for many short or longer treks into the nearby mountains. An attractive one-day walk is to Shiva Garh, about 11-km from Patnitop at an altitude of almost 3,500 metres.
Good bridle paths passing through wooded lanes and fascinating scenery link Patnitop with Kud and Batote. There are three, gushing, ice-cold freshwater springs in the area, which are said to have medicinal properties. The complete tourist circuit covers Jammu-Katra-Vaishno Deviji, Kud-Sanasar, Patnitop-Gourikund, Sudmahadev, Mantali, extending upto Latti-Dhuna.

One of the most popular attraction of patnitop is nathatop. Nathatop will offer you a great view of snow coated hills. Now these days nathatop is most popular due to paragliding. Sanasar lies at a distance of 17 kilometers from Patnitop and is an ideal travel destination. Sanasar is perfect for those who are keen on spending a quite and peaceful holiday. There is a beautiful golf course for those interested in the game.
In fact special effort has been made by the authorities to develop this picturesque meadow into a golf course. Tourists, who travel to Sanasar and are inclined towards adventure sports, can enjoy paragliding, horse riding and camping activities. Proper paragliding training camps are organized.
Tours and travel to Sanasar include a visit to tourist spots such as the Nag temple, the Hidden creek and the waterfalls. There are several tour packages available for Sanasar. MANSAR
It's a beautiful lake fringed by forest-covered hills situated 62 Kms away from Jammu. Apart from being a picnic spot, Mansar Lake has the religious importance too. On the Eastern Bank of the Lake there is a shrine of Sheshnaag, a mythological snake with six heads. The shrine comprises a big boulder on which are placed a number of iron chains perhaps representing the small serpents waiting on the tutelary deity of the Sheshnaag. |
